Democrats For Life Expresses Support for Rep. Cuellar’s Courage to Stand Up for Women
Washington, DC. Democrats For Life of America, a pro-life for the whole life advocacy group, expresses gratitude to Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) for voting against a bill advertised as the Women’s Health Protection Act.
“We appreciate that Congressman Cuellar stood up to protect women with this vote,” said Kristen Day, Executive Director of Democrats For Life of America. “The legislation was written by the abortion lobby to line their pockets financially by eliminating abortion health and safety regulations and eliminating laws aimed to provide women with information about abortion.”
The legislation would eliminate all state and federal health and safety regulations governing abortion and allow abortion throughout pregnancy. The proposed legislation would nullify laws that require waiting periods, offer women the right to view ultrasounds, provide for parental consent, and end other regulations aimed to equip women with information prior to abortion.
“A majority of Americans would like to see more support for pregnant women and alternatives to abortion,” said Day. “We look forward to our continued discussion with Congressman Cuellar to advance legislation that empowers women to make informed decisions about their futures. This commonsense approach is supported by mainstream Americans and includes making sure the Pregnancy Assistance Fund signed into law by President Obama is fully funded.”
Democrats For Life advocates to support women with real alternatives to abortion when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. DFLA has endorsed the Every Mother Matters Act and the Care For Her Act recently introduced by Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-1).
“Abortion should not be a partisan issue,” said Day. “We hope that other Democrats in Congress will follow the lead of Congressman Cuellar and vote for women rather than for the aboriton industry.”
